It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dr. Dave, the founder, owner, and beloved veterinarian of Furry Friends Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Dave dedicated his life to caring for animals and the families who loved them. His compassion, kindness, and gentle approach touched countless lives—both human and furry. He built Furry Friends on the belief that every pet deserves exceptional, loving care, and that legacy will continue to guide us each day.
In his honor, Furry Friends Veterinary Hospital will remain open and continue serving our clients and their pets with the same dedication and heart that Dr. Dave showed every single day.
We kindly ask that you do not call the office regarding his passing, as we want to keep our phone lines open to assist clients and care for pets in need.
We will be creating a tribute page on our website where clients, friends, and community members can share memories, stories, and messages in celebration of Dr. Dave’s incredible life and work.
Thank you for your support, understanding, and love during this difficult time.

Camille: I have never met Dr. Weiss - but instead was searching for Vets in the area, as I will be moving there with my dog and husband. I came across the notice of his passing, and it touched my heart how so many loved and respected him. To Mrs. Weiss - he sounded like the kindest gentle caring man, and outstanding loving Vet. We had lost our caring Vet of over 20 years. It's tough to lose a good person, and a doctor who cared for furry babies. So I know what all of his clients and his patients are feeling. I'm sorry I will never meet him - but my heart is filled with love for the tributes given, and what an immense impact he had in this lifetime. Mrs. Weiss, my you find comfort in your treasured memories, and how his legacy lives on with his practice still thriving. God Bless you
Maura & Eric Wesen: I was so deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Dave's passing. He was a kind, compassionate, patient and talented vet and human. He has cared for our rescue dogs over the past 10 years & been there for both wellness as well as when it was time to say goodbye to our sweet Honey dog. Dr. Dave will be greatly missed and may he sleep in eternal peace.
Karin Burke: Dr. Dave was such a wonderful, warm man and such a caring vet. He was so great for our very difficult little dachshund Nick and he understood Nick like no one could. Nick in turn seemed to love him! I was so deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Dave's untimely passing. May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted by knowing how much Dr. Dave was loved and respected. God bless you all.
Jean Horvath: I was so happy to discover Dr Dave about 10 years ago. I had a most difficult cat to bring to a vet and was thrilled to find a vet to come to the house. Dr Dave would sedate Mr Whiskers, and one particular visit couldn’t get Mr Whiskers to wake up. He sat with us for well over an hour until Mr Whiskers woke up and growled at us! Then Dr Dave knew he was going to be okay! He was a most caring vet and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and the staff at Furry Friends
Jill Pringle: Dr. David Weiss was the best vet my rescues had. We have known Dr. Dave since he started. My rescues had numerous problems and he always knew exactly how to treat my Roxanne. He gave her extra years with us and I am so thankful. We had to euthanize her at the age of 20 years old. Dr. Dave was the most compassionate , not only as a vet, but as a person. I met Jill, his wife and I was so happy they were so happy together and they were the best for each other . My prayers and heart goes out to Jill and the furry friends team. He will surely be missed. He will get to see all the animals he helped crossed the bridge. Was the best and always will be. Prayers and love .🙏🙏💔

Wendy Szymczak: I met Dr. Dave 15 years ago when I got my sweet puppy, Dixie. Who knew at that time that I would end up working for him at Furry Friends. We really had some good laughs traveling to appointments and often reminisced about past years and enjoyed a lot of classic rock music together. One song that comes to mind in your memory is “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd. Rock on in the heavens Dr. Dave and keep loving all the animals who have crossed the rainbow bridge.
Carter Nies: In Loving Memory of Dr. David Weiss Dr. David Weiss was one of the kindest, most compassionate souls we’ve ever known. His gentle spirit and genuine love for animals shone through in everything he did. For over a decade, Dr. Weiss cared for our beloved pets guiding them through routine visits, comforting them through procedures, and, in some cases, lovingly walking with us through their final moments. His bedside manner and empathy brought peace and reassurance to our family, especially during times of loss. Even just a week before his passing, he was there caring for our sweet Molly cat with the same dedication and warmth he always showed. We will deeply miss Dr. Weiss not only as our trusted veterinarian but as a wonderful human being whose kindness left a lasting mark on our hearts. Thank you, Dave, for your compassion, your care, and your love for all creatures great and small. You will never be forgotten.
Margaret Capo: thank you for taking great care of animals and doing an important job with purpose, that means so much to their pet moms and dads.Enjoy the blissful next stage of afterlife.
Jamie & Cary Brech: Doctor Dave came into our lives during a very distressing time. He was there when no other VET was able. He guided us through 2 two tough euthanasias that were totally unexpected, brain cancer for our 10 year old, then the 6 month later our other pup ( 6 months old), got osteocarcinoma. He had a vision of veterinary pet care that no one in our area ever tried. ,. Dr. Dave worked tirelessly all hours and even on FATHERS DAY for an urgent situation. He’s enabled seniors with mobility issues to remain pet owners , the list goes on and on. He will be immensely missed, He built a legacy that we hope will endure. His staff is amazing, quality attracts quality. They’re all terrific and so caring and empathetic. Our condolences to all . Love you DONNA & BRENDA❣️
Valerie Jacoby: Several years ago my rescue pup hurt her back. She was in horrible pain. Thinking it might be time to end her suffering I called Furry Friends. Dr Dave came to my home. He actually sat on the floor with my sweet Pebbles and spent at least an hour winning her over and loving her up. He gave me advice to help her back and she lived another two quality years until her precious heart gave out. I’ll be forever grateful to have had the honor of meeting this wonderful man. RIP Dr Dave 💔
Randi Weiner: I was introduced to Dr. Dave by a dear friend who was helping me cope with my baby beagle Sophie’s illness in 2023 and when my Sophie needed Daves assistance to cross over the rainbow bridge he was here with us . I was so devastated and Dr. Dave came to my house and was so kind and loving to me and to my Sophie he sat with us and comforted us and hugged me when he left . I remember thinking I wouldn’t want his job this job that someone has to do.. Just two weeks ago Dave came to my house again this time to meet Chip my new rescue dog and to be our new Vet. Gail Nordin Herbert: To all staff and family, My late husband and I owned The Dogfather of Jackson, now closed for many years. We called upon and recommended the wonderful services of Furry Friends every time there was a need for ourselves and our clients. Dr. Weiss was at our home multiple times to assist our beloved pets with crossing over the Rainbow Bridge. What a sincerely compassionate man he was! May he rest in peace with God’s blessings. Condolences to all who loved him.
Kelly Gale: We have been with Dr Dave for so many years and Pets. He was the most compassionate person. He cared for my dogs with love and kindness even when my crazy Jasmine barked her head off at him. He helped with her seizures and never questioned any decisions we made for her or our other dogs. He was the most genuine man and vet. We are heartbroken and will miss Dr. Dave.
Joni Germain: I met Dr Dave years ago when my husband, Jeff, was coaching his daughter in basketball. We would sit and chat during the games, as well as practice. I had no idea he was a vet. When my dog Misty needed some help, I took her to the local vets office, this is prior to Furry Friends. While I waited in the office, Dr. Dave walked in, and I said, “I didn’t know you were a vet.” He said, “I didn’t know you had a dog.” From that moment on Dr. Dave was our family vet. We followed him with his journey starting Furry Firends. He took care of all our animals over the years. He helped cross a few of them to the rainbow bridge. He was always very kind, compassionate and caring. I watched his business grow and I would constantly refer anybody who is looking for vet to Furry Friends. Thank you Dr Dave always answering my text messages when I was so concerned about the health of pets over the years. Thanks for coming out to see Jeff’s band play on several occasions. It was always nice to see you out and about and thank you for providing a list of educational resources for my son’s girlfriend so that she can pursue a career as a vet tech. She is grateful for that as well. And she’s starting her path soon. Misty, Shadow, Summer and Mallory thank you for the care your provided while they were here with us. Luna, Kirby and Moose are grateful as well. It will be hard to see a new vet. RIP The Germain Family
Lisa Arendt: Dr. Dave reached out to me on Facebook when I was struggling with the decision to assist my Mochabear over the rainbow bridge. I was so unsure. He kept in contact with me for 3 weeks asking how she was and if there were changes. When the day came he was here withing 15 minutes. Something that gave me and my daughter great anxiety was handled by such a loving, caring selfless man who understood and did everything he could to lessen our trauma. I will never forget him. Ever.

Mary Kohler: It was 2012. I had the honor of meeting a compassionate, loving and kind man named Dr. Dave Weiss. He talked of his vision for a veterinary experience none of us in Monmouth and Ocean Counties had known. Dr Dave walked me through some of the most heartbreaking deaths of my furry children. My Jack my Lily Girl my Duecy and My Emmeline. He shared my joys with my newest addition Gracie the Beagle. He worked tirelessly with my Buddy the Beagle with Dr Damian to find a solution for an experimental pup who suffered horribly with anxiety and terror. Buddy can enjoy life today all because of Dr. Dave. All of my pets enjoy life because of Dr. Dave. I want to wish Jill and all of the Furry Friend family my deepest condolences and love. Mary Kohler
Diane and Kevin Kennedy: Dr Dave you have taken care of my collies for over 20 years you will be deeply missed
Lori ann Rinkowski: Words cannot describe the loss that we all feel for Dr Dave. He was such an amazing person, kind-hearted with such a soft soul. He was such a delight to always have at my home were to see in office with my dogs. He used to make me laugh when he would tell me when he was doing a puppy exam that he couldn't commit LOL he always made me laugh and smile and I am a better person for knowing him. Dr Dave believed in me in my program and always had such nice things to say about us. He will truly be missed
Suzann Kaliff: Dr Dave helped two of our Goldens cross the bridge peacefully at home. Both rescues, but while Jackson was sweet as could be, Magee was prone to reactive violent behavior at times. Taking him into a vets office was extremely stressful for all and required expert care with his behavior and treatment. When cancer took its toll on Magee , Dr Dave came to the house to make it as comfortable as possible. Once he was able to get the initial sedative injection into him and Magee laid down, Dr Dave knelt next to him and lovingly caressed him, telling him he’s waited a long time to be able to just pet him. It meant so much to us that after all the hard times we had dealing with his issues, Dr Dave’s kind heart still shown through. I’m so very sorry of Dr Dave’s passing. My heartfelt sympathies to his family
Margie Mauceri: I only knew Dr. Dave for a short time… I came to furry friends because I know Dr. RAHN on a personal level and when I got my Doberman, I brought himto her but one day my baby was ill and needed a house call and Dr. Dave was the one that was available to come. It was such a convenience having someone come to the house… him and his technician were so sweet (and my daughter‘s dog who lives here also but sees a different vet) He was kind enough to see her as well and treat them both for their cold.s. And we saw him over the summer at his booth at Summerfest so my daughter got to meet him. I’m still in shock over the news that he passed, I know all his furry friends greeted him with lots of kisses and wagging tails. He will be missed, but I hope they continue his legacy.
Regina Murray: I choke up everytime I think of Dr. Dave 😢. He treated my pup babies like they were his own. Not 2 months ago he came to our home at 10pm to assist in the passing of my pup. The hug he gave me made me feel so much better. Rest easy Doc....you will be missed by all who knew you...😪🐾💔

He helped me in the end of Football’s life on 10/4 to understand that I was doing the right thing. I was so broken hearted to learn that a week later he was gone. Heaven was waiting for Dr Dave for sure. Forever missed. 💔

Kristine Meyer: I am having a hard time understanding that Dr. Dave has passed away. He has been my dog's vet for over 10 years. We had many conversations about his new house and his future plans to open larger practice. He was a very special person.
Alan Zwerling and Rita Gribko: Dr. Dave filled a long overdue void for those of us who needed a great and caring professional for our pets at home. We met with Dr. Dave many years ago when it was just him, an assistant, and one van. In the years since, he and his wonderful staff have provided excellent care for our babies and helped several of them cross over the rainbow bridge. We consider him and his wife Jill our friends and will continue to recommend Furry Friends to anyone whenever possible. We wish Jill and the entire Furry Friends family comfort and peace in this very sad time.
